The International “Üstâd-ı Cihân” Tanbûrî Cemil Bey Online Symposium organized by the Turkish Music Academic Circle (TUMAC) on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Tanbûrî Cemil Bey between 7-9 May 2021 took place in collaboration with Anatolian Music Cultures Association, Mim Sanat Association and Tanburi Cemil Bey Association.

To whom it may concern;
“Üstâd-ı Cihân” Tanbûrî Cemil Bey, deserves to be identified as the memory of Turkish Music Culture due to his mastership and talent in the performance of various instruments, to his unusual skills in the perception of makam based music and the reflection of this skill in the area of performance, and finally to his intercultural view in approaching the music in Anatolia arousing through its multi-cultural past. Because of these, TUMAC (Turkish Music Academic Circle) aims to celebrate 2021 -the 150th anniversary of Tanbûrî Cemil Bey’s birth- with a series of activities to underline the importance of Cemil Bey as a historical character who has carried the intercultural music history of Anatolia to today’s World.
As the first step of these activities, TUMAC decided to organize the “Üstâd-ı Cihân” Tanbûrî Cemil Bey International Online Symposium between 7 and 9 May 2021 to bring together academics and musicians worldwide in order to present their works in the areas symbolizing the musical life of Cemil Bey, such as performance, theory, music history, instruments, and cultural interaction. It is possible to apply for the symposium by submitting an abstract of 200-250 words to the Organizing Committee under the topics musical instruments, music theory, history of music, musical performance, and modernity-cultural interaction. Although the Organizing Committee gives preference to the papers directly or indirectly related to the musical life of Cemil Bey and its long-term effects, all the intuitive works that will help enrich the indicated areas are welcome for submission. Deadline for abstract submission is 15th of February 2021. All the necessary executive activities will be planned, conducted and announced by the Organizing Committee.
